Nurturing Families: LGBTQ+ Families

6-week course for parents/caregivers whose family includes LGBTQ+ members. This is a supplemental course that blends the Nurturing Parenting curriculum with the uniqueness of LGBTQ+ families. Topics covered include:

  • Transcending Prejudice and Discrimination

  • Spirituality and Belief Systems

  • Brain Development, Gender and Domestic Violence

Nurturing Parenting: Fathers

10-week course for any parent/caregiver who identifies as male. This program focuses on the value of male role models in a child’s life, helping to break down the stereotypes of absent or uninvolved fathers and teaching healthy ways to give love and affection. Topics covered include:

  • Nurturing Our Children and Ourselves

  • Fathering Sons/Fathering Daughters

Nurturing Parenting Through Recovery

16-week course for parents/caregivers working on recovery and wanting to learn more about the effects of substance use on their family, parenting style, and their relationship with their child. This program focuses on guided discussions and activities to enhance self-awareness and increase parent/caregiver ability to relate to their children. Learning happens in a safe, supportive environment with others who share similar life experiences. Topics covered include:

  • Understanding the effects of substance use on families

  • Exploring and building on strengths

  • Strengthening connection with your child

  • Learning skills & strategies to build a healthy family

Nurturing Parenting: Community Based Education

A series of 10 enrichment classes offered on a rolling basis. Join anytime and attend any/all of the classes! For parents/caregivers who would like to increase their parenting knowledge and skills to make informed, healthy parenting choices. Topics by week:

  • Week 1: Philosophy of Nurturing Parenting

  • Week 2: Ages and Stages

Active Parenting: First Five Years

4-week course for parents/caregivers of children ages 0-5. This course helps parents/caregivers build parenting skills through an understanding of their child’s development. Topics covered include:

  • parenting styles and roles

  • ages and stages of development

  • connecting with your child

  • building a strong family bond

  • establishing routines

  • preventing tantrums

  • non-violent discipline

Active Parenting: 5 - 12

6-week course for parents/caregivers of children ages 5-12. This course continues where First Five Years leaves off, with a focus on childhood development and healthy strategies for addressing daily parenting challenges. Topics covered include:

  • effective communication & encouragement

  • building self-esteem

  • cooperation

  • defusing power struggles

  • dealing with peer pressure

  • using positive discipline

  • building closer relationships through family fun

Active Parenting: Teens

6-week course for parents/caregivers of pre-teens and up. This course covers adolescent development and strategies to raise resilient teens while maintaining a positive, healthy relationship. Topics covered include:

  • communication tools

  • teaching responsibility

  • respectful discipline

  • effective encouragement

  • strategies to prevent risky behavior

  • insights into online behavior, bullying & depression

  • handling sensitive issues such as sexuality, drugs & violence

Active Parenting: Co-Parenting

8-week course for parents/caregivers who are navigating separation/divorce. This course empowers separating or divorcing parents to focus on shielding their children from parental conflict and transitioning into a healthy co-parenting relationship with their child’s other parent. Topics covered include:

  • understanding the impact of parental conflict on children

  • allowing children to love both parents

  • parental healing

  • cooperative communication

  • managing anger & increasing impulse control

  • discussion without argument

  • making co-parenting decisions in the children’s best interest

Active Parenting: Step-Families

6-week course for parents/caregivers who are entering into or already living in blended families. This course supports parents/caregivers living with a new, combined family structure. Topics covered include:

  • blending family histories

  • building new relationships

  • handling loyalty conflicts & power struggles

  • effective communication

  • setting healthy boundaries

  • teaching responsibility

  • building cooperation

1,2,3 Magic

6 week course for parents/caregivers who are facing challenging behaviors with children ages 18 months to 12 years. This course is a simple parenting program that provides a calm and effective approach to discipline. It focuses on:

  • Getting your kids to stop doing the things you don’t want them to do (tantrums, whining, etc.).

  • Getting them to start doing the things you want them to do (cleaning up, homework, etc.).

  • Bonding with your kids.

  • Helps parents bolster their communication style and children develop emotional intelligence, creating a setting where everyone feels heard and respected.

  • Appropriate for both neurotypical and neurodivergent kids.
